MANILA — Online marketplace Carousell has added a food and drinks category in an effort to help small businesses during the coronavirus-induced quarantine.

In a statement released Friday, Carousell said it has partnered with Unilever Food Solutions to onboard hundreds of food and beverage (F&B) businesses onto the platform.

The new category, which offers local eats and special promotions, also aims to connect diners and give them more food choices.

“As we go through these trying times, we continuously find ways to innovate and bridge entrepreneurs and consumers through our platform’s newest food and drinks category. We support local F&B owners while they reinvent themselves online and thrive despite the current economic challenge,” said Carousell Philippines general manager Raffy Montemayor.

For his part, BJ Carreon, managing director of Unilever Food Solutions for the Philippines and Vietnam, said: “We are pleased to partner with Carousell and provide F&B businesses a platform to reach more diners without added costs. This partnership shows our effort to help operators create new revenue streams in a digital and online environment. While the situation remains tough, we believe the F&B industry can persevere and emerge stronger together.”

Carousell has provided guidelines for F&B outlets that are interested to be part of the new category.

Small businesses can also apply for a subscription service to gain more exposure, with Carousell committing P9 million worth of advertising currency to eligible applicants.
