Under the glow of the moon and the rhythm of rolling waves, Elyu’s bustling vibe set the mood for the night as rock bands Sandwich and Autotelic, along with TV5 artists, delivered punchy, high-energy performances that enlivened the crowd during the recent TV5 and TRUE FM’s “Red Hot Kapatid Summer” event in San Juan.
Early in the afternoon, disc jockeys played their respective sets as a pinkish sunset formed in the background, while eventgoers got henna tattoos, enjoyed free hair braiding and visited various booths to top off the fun-filled activities.
“My Bespren Emman” actors Yasmyne Jill and Iven Lim promoted TV5’s newest series and performed a duet on stage.
“I’ve been here a couple of times, but this time it’s special for me because mag-pe-perform kami ni Yas and we’re also promoting ‘My Bespren Emman,’” Iven, who plays Tomas Cruz in the series, told The STAR.
Yasmyne was equally thrilled, as it was her first time visiting La Union. She portrays Priscilla, the best friend of Shaina Magdayao’s Ruth in “My Bespren Emman.”
Event host Sam Coloso also shared that she had always wanted to return to the province. “It’s such a nice feeling. I’m very, very excited kasi kasama ko ang TV5. I’m just so hyped up tapos madami pa tayong bandang kasama like Autotelic. I have a lot of friends who already relocated here kaya ‘pag pumupunta ako dito siguro once a year kapag busy. Sometimes, twice.”
Sam appeared in “Project Loki” and is set to star in the romantic-thriller series “A Secret in Prague.”

As the night kicked off, “Gud Morning Kapatid” hosts Dimples Romana, Angela Lagunzad-Castro, Mondi Lopez and Alvin Pura took the stage, exchanged playful banter and danced to Hawak Mo ang Beat.
“I’m so excited to be part of this event. We’re happy as kapatid na lumapit pa sa mga kapatid sa iba’t ibang panig ng mga probinsiya, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao man yan. And this time, we’re here in La Union. It’s exciting to meet other kapatid and tell them firsthand kung ano yung mga pwede nilang abangan sa atin,” Dimples enthused.

The alt-rock collective Autotelic, meanwhile, entertained the crowd with their original songs, Mapa, Laro and Takipsilim and a cover of their favorite band, Rivermaya’s Himala.
The rock group is made up of Josh Villena (vocals), Neil Tin (guitars), EJ Edralin (keyboards), Timothy “Pabs” Vargas (bass guitars) and Gep Macadaeg (drums).

DJ Chacha and Kuya Poy make an appearance at the beachside event.
“It’s an honor to play for TV5,” said Josh. “It’s nice to have this kind of celebration and event. Of course, kinakabahan kami because it’s a big stage and we know that the Elyu crowd is a listening crowd.”
“It’s not obvious, but we like to play sa tabi ng beach. Naka-itim lang kami (shirt) but we’re beach people,” added Neil.

Alt-rock band Autotelic is among the performers.
Josh shared that it wasn’t their first time playing in La Union. “The last time that we played here was pre-pandemic. This is our third time, and the vibe is still there, but mas kinabahan lang.”
“TV5 has a history of supporting local music,” noted Gep. “Ever since yung music bureau program nila dati yung ‘90s, they’ve been supporting up-and-coming and mainstream bands. So, it’s an honor to be part of it.”
The highlight of the night came when 6cyclemind frontman Tutti Caringal jammed with Sandwich members Diego Castillo, Myrene Academia, Mong Alcaraz and Mike Dizon. Tutti filled in for Raimund Marasigan for the gig.
They effortlessly rocked the stage with Two Trick Pony, Butterfly and their renditions of 6cyclemind’s Sandalan, Teeth’s Prinsesa and Eraserheads’ Magasin, before capping the night off with an electrifying performance of Sugod.
“Actually, I didn’t really think about it,” Tutti replied when asked by this paper about his experience joining Sandwich. “At first, I was surprised when Sandwich asked me to help out. Sino ba naman ako para tumanggi? I mean that’s Raimund. Ako naman, I just try to do my best and not really expecting (anything), but sobrang saya talaga. That’s all I can say.”
Sandwich has just dropped their newest single, Young Stunna, a tribute to the younger generation. They’ll also be releasing their first full-length album in a long time soon.
