MANILA, Philippines — To commemorate Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month this March, the Philippine Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (PSCRS) invites runners, health advocates, and the community to participate in The Bowel Run 2025 on March 9, 2025, at Bridgetowne Destination Estate, Pasig. This event seeks to promote awareness of colorectal cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common and second deadliest cancer in the Philippines, affecting the large intestine and rectum. It is estimated that nearly one in 23 men and one in 25 women worldwide will develop this disease in their lifetime. Risk factors include a low-fiber diet, alcohol consumption, processed foods, obesity, and smoking. Common symptoms may include changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, abdominal pain, and unexplained weight loss. Despite its prevalence, colorectal cancer is preventable and highly treatable when detected early. Regular screening and a healthier lifestyle can significantly lower the risk and improve outcomes.
With awareness and early detection playing a crucial role in prevention, this event calls for people to take proactive steps toward their health. Following a successful debut in 2024, The Bowel Run returns with race distances ranging from 3KM, 5KM, and 10KM. Proceeds will support educational campaigns on colorectal cancer and provide assistance to colorectal cancer and ostomate patients.
